Santa Maria Maggiore is the oldest Marian basilica in the West. Free entrance: inside you'll find original 5th-century mosaics (Old Testament stories on the naves, and the Coronation of Mary in the apse). The coffered ceiling with gold was made with the first gold that arrived from the Americas. It's located near Termini, it's the church you often see on your right when arriving by train. The Loggia tour with the facade mosaics requires a ticket.
