'Domenica al Museo' is an initiative by the Ministry of Culture: every first Sunday of the month, dozens of state museums and archaeological sites are free. In Rome that means: Colosseum + Forum + Palatine, Galleria Borghese, Castel Sant'Angelo, Galleria Nazionale di Arte Antica (Palazzo Barberini), Terme di Caracalla, Pantheon (in some cases), and many others. Galleria Borghese still requires free online booking (spots fill up quickly, book at least a week in advance). Very touristy sites get crowded: arrive at opening time.
