Isola Tiberina is Rome's only river island. You can cross it via Ponte Fabricio (the oldest Roman bridge still in use, from 62 BC) and Ponte Cestio. In summer it hosts 'L'Isola del Cinema' with open-air screenings (paid). From the stairs you can go down to the Tevere embankments and walk for kilometers between Trastevere and Centro storico. Beautiful at sunset. Always free.
