Gianicolo — the panoramic view and the noon cannon

The largest terrace overlooking the city. And a cannon that fires every day at noon.

Trastevere/Testaccio · Piazzale Giuseppe Garibaldi, Roma0.8 hGratisMidday for the cannon, or sunset

Di cosa si tratta

Gianicolo is the hill that overlooks all of Rome from the Trastevere side. From the panoramic terrace you can see the domes, the rooftops, St. Peter's in the distance. Roman tradition: every day at noon sharp a cannon fires (it's a blank shot that has marked the exact time since 1847). The shot is loud: don't be startled. Above the terrace there's also the equestrian statue of Garibaldi. You can get there on foot from Trastevere or by bus 115. Beautiful at sunset.
