The Bocca della Verità is an ancient marble disc (probably a drain cover) with a carved face. Medieval legend says that if you put your hand in its mouth and tell a lie, you won't get it back. It's located in the portico of the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin. Suggested donation (€2), but it's actually free. There's almost always a line, but it moves fast (everyone takes their photo in 30 seconds). Combine it with a visit to the church itself, which is beautiful in its simplicity.
