Appia Antica — the queen of Roman roads

Historic walk outside the center among cobblestones, pine trees, catacombs and silence.

Di cosa si tratta

The Via Appia Antica is the Roman 'queen of roads', built in 312 BC. In the Appia Antica Regional Park you can walk for kilometers on the same cobblestones that legionaries and merchants once traveled. You enter from Porta San Sebastiano (Tomba di Cecilia Metella area). On Sundays cars are closed to traffic and it's perfect for bikes (rentals available in the area, for a fee) or walking. The park is free; the catacombs along the route are paid. Bring water and a hat in summer.
